The latest EPC controller range from Eurotherm focuses on a robust cybersecurity strategy and IIoT connectivity

As an established leader in industrial automation and process control, Eurotherm™ by Schneider Electric™ passionately supports its customers with specialist knowledge in control and data acquisition. Combined with experience in advanced thermal manufacturing applications, the company helps customers achieve process excellence through machine automation efficiency and regulatory compliance. Eurotherm are well-known for understanding the value of precision control, and their industry leading Eurotherm PID control algorithm within this latest programmable controller range, does not disappoint.

An adaptable, scalable digital solution with flexible software and instant upgrades available online when required.

The EPC3000 range of programmable controllers helps deliver an efficient and secure process. Available in three DIN sizes, these products deliver fast-acting precision control which helps maintain high standards of production quality combined with a robust cybersecurity strategy.

The EPC2000 programmable single loop temperature and process controller is a back of panel, DIN rail controller available with optional Pro-face GP4100 touchscreen HMI for use as the primary operator interface. This enables an OEM to easily integrate high precision control plus setpoint programming into a PLC system using native Ethernet communication.

The measurement input across the whole range is fast and accurate with exceptional thermal stability, aiding precise and consistent control over long periods without calibration drift. In fact, the EPC controller range easily achieves the stability, accuracy and repeatability required across multiple industrial applications that need precision control, offering benefits in heat treatment for aerospace & automotive, life sciences, semiconductor, glass and food & beverage processes.

Eurotherm PID control algorithm delivers fast reacting and repeatable control and has been further enhanced to help reduce overshoot, increasing plant utilization. Rapid attainment of operating temperature and low oscillation aids high process throughput at low scrap rates. Different PID settings may be applied in different operating ranges for optimum performance, and independent single loop controllers are able to maintain zone conditions independently of supervisory system or PLC operation.

With a high level of functionality and configurability, these controllers are easy to install, commission and replace, and are built to last. Global certification to international standards means they are adaptable to a wide spectrum of markets and applications, with a robust design for high reliability in demanding environments. Modbus RTU serial communications are also supported. A free PC based backup and configuration tool uses a USB connection, which can power the instrument from the USB interface for convenient desktop configuration.

Eurotherm designed the EPC controller range around best practice for cybersecurity, tested to the highly demanding Achilles® CRT Level 1 qualification, a unique solution designed to enable device manufacturers to conduct comprehensive quality testing throughout the product development lifecycle.

Ethernet communications are supported via a standard RJ45 connector, providing fast access to process and diagnostic information, as well as connectivity to external PLC or plant SCADA.

A system integrator commented, “The performance of this controller range is impressive, and the certification for Ethernet robustness will help our own cybersecurity strategy and give peace of mind for the future.”

Christopher Ashworth, VP & Managing Director, Eurotherm by Schneider Electric added “Our customers can adapt more easily to changing needs with flexible software and instant upgrades available online. Ethernet connectivity enhances the convergence of information and operations technology, giving device operators access to all the data they need. This allows our customers to capitalize on the industrial internet of things in their manufacturing processes across a multitude of applications.”
