Pullman Instruments’ new “Colin Smith Laboratory” opened by Harrogate & Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones

On Friday 26th June Andrew Jones MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Dept. of Transport and Member of Parliament for Harrogate, opened the new “Colin Smith Laboratory” with many customers, employees and local people in attendance.

The opening of the new Laboratory begins a new chapter in the Harrogate Company’s history in taking the opportunity to name it after Pullman Instruments’ founder Colin Smith, who passed away in 2014. Pullman Instruments have invested heavily in the construction of the new facility which will enable a higher level of service to its customers both old and new. Through the new facility will effectively double their capacity Pullman to provide a wide range of services for their clients. Much of the testing equipment has also been upgraded increasing the efficiency of its client service, bringing a quicker turnaround making Pullman Instruments one of the most competitive companies in the UK instrument calibration market.

At the opening, Andrew Jones MP said,” This is a real success story. Success in the sense that you are growing, value added, high skilled… it’s just the sort of thing that we actually need in our economy as a whole. If we could replicate the Pullman story across our country we would be in a far better place.” He continued by saying,” What you have achieved is clearly fantastic. I like the business is a nice family business, that you are naming it after Colin Smith (father of Pullman Group CEO Nathan Smith) and that’s a lovely way to think about the business past and build upon that success for the future.

Pullman Group CEO, and son of Colin, Nathan Smith said,” It was great to finally open the new ‘Colin Smith Laboratory’ at the beginning of our open day and share that with some old and new customers. Hopefully the new capacity will benefit the company as we continue to grow, along with the increasing investment, that has been made in testing kit for the lab  over the last few months and years. Even though the day has passed with success, we are more than happy for others to come and have a look and see what we have to offer. “

Mark Kendall, Director of Pullman Instruments, said,” The open day proved to be a great success, it was the culmination of months of planning and hard work on the part of the service team that we were able to present to our customers a much clearer insight into the capabilities we can offer, we were pleased to have in attendance representatives from most of the Manufacturers who we are approved by, they also had an opportunity to see the changes we had made. We look forward to the future now with an increased confidence.”

A range of visitors including customers, dignitaries, suppliers and Pullman staff had the opportunity to see the new laboratory in action with Andrew Jones being shown around the new facility by Pullman Director Mark Kendall.
