Powelectrics ‘Off the Shelf’ Metron telemetry can also deliver highly customised IIoT solutions

Powelectrics strives to offer cutting edge IoT technology in a practical, user-friendly format, so that its customers can focus on their core business. The company’s standard range of hardware is truly ‘plug n play’ and its MetronView cloud is exceptionally customisable. Powelectrics also understands that global m2m is not a ‘one size fits all’ business!! There are a broad range of little tweaks and major adaptations the company can offer, to ensure it delivers the right solution for your application.

Let’s start with the Metron4, Powelectrics’ brand new Industry 4.0 telemetry hardware. It supports 2G, but also 4G (CatM1 & NB1) for global deployment, even in places where the 2G network has been switched off. As with its predecessors, the Metron4, in conjunction with our MetronView platform, can be delivered as a complete ‘plug and play’ telemetry solution.

Devices are delivered ready to install with simple instructions and no programming experience is needed. Powelectrics can configure units prior to dispatch or remotely via MetronView. Devices are easily tested on site, via the interactive display. Perfect for speedy installation and no site visits if a reconfiguration is needed as that too can be delivered via MetronView.

The Metron4 offers a range of power options as standard:

  • Externally-powered with battery backup, for sensor readings up to every 5 minutes.
  • Battery-Powered (offering up to four years data, based on one reading per day)
  • Solar-Powered, offering readings as frequently as every 10 minutes

This means your m2m remote monitoring system can be self-sufficient anywhere that has a mobile phone signal, even in the middle of a field!

As well as making regular transmissions, the Metron4 can store up to 80 readings per channel. This greatly reduces the possibility of losing data points, even in areas of poor signal and that you can transmit less frequently, if your application permits.

Powelectrics can deliver end-to end Industry 4.0 solutions, or part of a ‘connected sensor’ solution, be that sensors, telemetry hardware, connectivity or IoT cloud. The company works closely with its customers to understand and meet their specific needs.

The company can fit a range of additional kit in its factory, prior to dispatch ….  or during installation. These include simple add-ons such as external antennas to boost signal strength or rugged weatherproof mains connectors.

Powelectrics can also build panels and enclosures to incorporate a range of ancilliary devices such as signal isolators, signal conditioners and ATEX barriers.

Metron4 also offers enormous flexibility to add functionality for customer-driven applications. In addition to the standard 4 analogue inputs, there are 2 optional relay outputs controlled either remotely or when threshold breached and expansion cards for pulse counting (5 channels) and RS232.

Metron4 has hugely expanded Powelectrics capacity for edge processing and interfacing with third party kit within the Metron solution. There are options to develop RS485 and CANBUS interfaces and options for custom firmware. For example, Powelectrics could write the code to parse serial data streams and perform mathematical and logical calculations.

Powelectrics can white label its solutions. Both the Metron4 telemetry hardware and the company’s proprietary MetronView cloud can bear customers’ corporate graphics and be presented as their own product.

MetronView offers customisable dashboards, reporting and alerts. Regular data and alarms can be easily viewed by unlimited, authorised personnel, based on hierarchical permissions, on any web-enabled device. Its secure and scalable, currently processing millions of readings every day, whilst only using a fraction of its processing capabilities. MetronView supports over 140 protocols including MODBUS, MQTT, HTTP, TCP, UDP, SERIAL, SIGFOX, SNMP.

Data can be collected from MetronView by other platforms via a common API. These could be existing application-specific portals, created by Powelectrics or by its customers. Powelectrics have developed a number of these ‘micro-sites’ for customers.

For example, MetronTMS (Tank Monitoring System) was developed for customers who distribute or collect bulk product. (liquid, gas, powder or granules). Thresholds can be configured for individual tanks to alert customers when tanks are reaching amber and red alert levels and even predict when individual tanks will need filling/emptying based on recent usage. Tanks can be plotted on a map, by colour code and postcode to enable efficient logistics planning.  This allows customers to drive down logistics costs and enhance customer service.

Other portals have been developed for energy metering, glue dispensing in packaging, waste compactors and monitoring engine temperature on trains. Powelectrics really does get involved in a diverse range of industries and applications!

The API also allows integration to software like Navision, SAP, SCADA and platforms like IBM Watson, Microsoft Azure, AWS and Miimetiq.

Powelectrics offers you over 25 years’ experience in sensors and instrumentation. The company has been involved in connecting sensors for 20 years, from the earliest days of radio telemetry to envisioning and creating cutting edge solutions for the global IIoT of the future
