FUELlink Systems are providers of complete range of commercial fuelling equipment including fuel tanks, pumps, gauges and AdBlue kit. Their fuel management systems currently control around a billion litres of fuel around the world.
Based in Motherwell, their latest project was a little closer to home, at a local whisky distillery, which delivers good spirit to the world, with no less than a Queen’s Award for Export Achievement!
The site is partly heated by kerosene. The small local gauges were difficult to access and there had been a number of occasions when the tanks had run low, requiring expensive emergency fuel deliveries.
The customer realised they needed an automated remote monitoring system that would alert key personnel to low fuel levels in time to reorder stock. FUELlink came to Powelectrics.
Metron4 telemetry devices were installed to take hourly readings from SPS hydrostatic pressure sensors in the tanks. The data is sent to Powelectrics MetronView cloud, where regular data is available for trend analysis and user-defined yellow and red low-level alarms are generated and sent to the Site Operations Manager.
FUELlink sent Powelectrics the tank dimensions and other details prior to installation, so the telemetry units were configured prior to dispatch and our technical support team were available to assist during installation.
Pauline McGowan, FUELlink’s Service and Procurement Manager, “We knew Powelectrics from installing Metron telemetry for an international AdBlue business. The distillery is delighted with this solution. Since the installation there have been no emergency fuel deliveries and now they are rolling out the technology to other tanks on site. Powelectrics technical support was excellent throughout. The kit has done exactly what our customer needed and we’re actively promoting this IoT technology to other customers.”
For this project, external power was available, but Metron4 IIoT units can also be battery and solar powered for use in remote and rural locations. Metron m2m devices can measure up to four tanks and represent particularly good value where multiple tanks are located close together. Metron4 telemetry hardware supports 2G and 4G for global deployment.
Powelectrics SPS series of robust and affordable level sensors are widely used for tank level (fuel, oil, lubricant, AdBlue, water, waste, chemicals & food) and river, reservoir or sewer level monitoring. As well basic units, Powelectrics supply versions that combine temperature and level, and with PTFE cable or 316 stainless steel. ATEX versions & versions for hygienic and aggressive environments are available. More on SPS sensors.
Data and alerts can be seen by multiple authorised users based on a permissions hierarchy, on any web-enabled device. This means that IIoT tank level data can be used by multiple stakeholders for production planning, ordering supplies, logistics, monitoring energy usage, maintenance and more.
Powelectrics wish everyone the best of health at this difficult time. The company is still fully operational, despite being located apart and it is not currently anticipating any negative effects on business continuity.
