Micronics Clamp-on Flow Meters used to accurately test flow of water through induction heating coils in Service Centre

A Micronics U1000 flowmeter was used in a purpose built Induction Service Centre in Birmingham to test the flow of water through induction heating coils. Ajax Tocco designs and manufactures induction heating and melting equipment for various industries and applications throughout the world. The company has invested over £2 Million in one of the largest induction processing and commercial heat treating facilities in Europe operating 17 purpose built systems around the clock. The Induction Service Centre is responsible for the repair and manufacture of new induction heating and melting equipment, such as induction coils, furnaces and water-cooled power delivery leads / busbars. When Stuart Dennis, one of Ajax Tocco’s Sales Engineer’s was asked for input in designing new multi-functional portable test equipment; he knew that the Micronics unit would be ideal for the job.

The test equipment as built needs to deliver flow and pressure, which is recorded. It is critical that we measure the flow as accurately as we can to ensure critical specifications are met. This is to ensure longevity of the critically water cooled items. Our results need to coincide with those at site, and with state of the art monitoring utilised by our customers, we need comparable apparatus.

The Ultraflo 1000 offered a quick and reliable flow measurement solution. It was chosen because it meant that there was no need to cut into pipes which, in turn meant that installation costs were minimal because the system did not need to be drained down or pipes cut into potentially restricting water paths. It is configured for pipe size so there is nominal configuration on site; and with its easy to follow menu it proved to be a cost-effective alternative to a traditional in-line meter installation. In addition, dry servicing is possible so that downtime is kept to a minimum. Its operation has proved exceptional.

Stuart Dennis selected Micronics as the supplier because he had used Micronics flow meters on previous applications and therefore trusted the complete range. “Micronics’ extensive experience with clamp-on, ultrasonic, flow measurement technology and their competitive pricing in comparison to similar technology solutions or alternatives was a major factor in my selection. The results have proved to be very worthwhile and are well received by our customers. The added value of having such equipment differentiates us in our market sector. We are in the process of upgrading other test rigs which will incorporate a similar units.”
