Introducing the 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well

SJ Electronics, primary sales partner of Fluke Calibration in the UK, is excited to introduce the 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well; a small, lightweight, and accurate dry-block calibrator which, the company states, offers best-in-class stability.

The 9190A is ideal for pharmaceutical, biomedical and food processing applications that demand strict quality control and regulatory process compliance. This includes on-location validation and calibration of RTDs, thermocouples, thermometers, and sensors used with process control equipment, such as medical freezers, laboratory refrigerators, cold rooms, blood banks, sterilizers (autoclaves), and freeze dryers.

“The 9190A is a great new addition to the Fluke range of Field Metrology Wells,” said Melvin Crane, managing director, SJ Electronics.  “Being able to get down to -95 degrees with such stability and accuracy enables us to address a whole new range of applications. Our customers seem to agree with me as well, as there has been high demand for our evaluation 9190A’s. People clearly want to see for themselves how good this new well is.”

An accurate temperature source is critical for dependable process measurements

Unreliable process measurements can have a damaging impact on business, leading to poor product quality, recalls, fines, waste, and lost profits. Ultimately, measurements are only as good as the temperature sources used to calibrate the measurement equipment. The 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well incorporates the best technology and design expertise gained from decades of dry-block development experience. The 9190A conforms with EURAMET cg-13 guidelines for best measurement practices for temperature block calibrators. As a result, you can be assured that the 9190A specifications for accuracy, stability, axial (vertical) uniformity, radial (well-to-well) uniformity, loading, and hysteresis have been thoroughly and carefully defined and tested. With a 9190A, you can be confident you’re using the most accurate and stable ultra-cool dry-block calibrator available. And that will have a positive impact on your business.

Great for clean room environments

Calibration baths are the most stable and uniform temperature sources available, but they aren’t a good fit for clean rooms. The size of a bath limits its portability, and bath fluids can easily spill and give off vapours. The 9190A is a great alternative. Its wide temperature range brackets the coldest and highest temperature ranges required for pharmaceutical, biomedical and food processing applications. The 9190A is small and lightweight, making it easy to transport. And since it does not use heat transfer fluids, clean rooms stay clean. The 9190A cooling and heating times are faster than a calibration bath – that means calibration work gets done more quickly.

Comparison calibration made easy

The 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well provides excellent stability, uniformity and plenty of well depth for calibrating platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs), thermocouples, and other industrial thermometers. The 9190A offers ±0.2°C display accuracy over the full range. Applying the industry standard TUR of 4:1 allows you to achieve calibration accuracy of ±0.8°C using the dry-well display alone.

With the process version of the 9190A model, you can automate calibrations of PRTs, thermocouples, and other industrial thermometers. The process version enables comparison calibrations against a reference PRT using the built-in readout input with an accuracy of ±0.01°C. When combined with other uncertainties such as uniformity, loading effect, and stability, the 9190A total measurement uncertainty with a reference PRT is as good as ±0.06°C. Applying the industry standard TUR of 4:1 allows you to achieve calibration accuracy as good as ±0.24°C.

Using a built-in reference thermometer improves the 9190A accuracy of the calibration more than three times compared to using the display alone (±0.24°C compared to ± 0.8°C).  It also reduces the amount of extra equipment needed to be carried when performing on-site calibrations. And with the smart connector technology, which stores your reference thermometer’s calibration coefficients, it’s easy to connect your reference thermometer to the dry-well and start making measurements immediately. When calibrating shorter sensors that don’t reach the bottom of the drywell, measurement accuracy can be improved by aligning the reference thermometer to the same immersion depth as the sensor under test. The 9190A includes a Reference Sensor Control feature which allows precise control of the block temperature at the depth to which the reference thermometer is immersed.

Using a reference probe with a Fluke Calibration 9190A is as easy as plug-and-play. It will significantly improve your accuracy in calibrating probes used in critical processes and enable you to offer better service to your customers with less equipment than before.

The Fluke 9190A Ultra-Cool Field Metrology Well is available now from SJ Electronics, with free on-site demonstrations offered as standard. Alternatively, see it in action at the Sensors & Instrumentation exhibition on stand B17.
