Expansion into the Americas follows procurement of USA business for UK electronics manufacturer

Contrec Manufacturing (CML) has successfully secured the purchase of 100% interest in Contrec USA after months of detailed negotiations. CML is an independent specialist manufacturer of flow computers, batch controllers and flow rate totalisers for the flow meter industry. The procurement will enable CML to extend its reach into the American markets, expand its business and offer a better service to its customers.

Pam Casson, managing director of CML, said: “This procurement gives us better and more direct access to the American markets, not just North America in the USA and Canada, but also Central and South America. This will give us more visibility and through an increase in our stock holding, with greater availability of spares we’ll be in a much stronger position to support our distribution networks. A programme of staff training and development will also ensure we can better support installations.

“In addition, we can use the feedback we receive from the American market, which is very different from our other markets, for product development across the board. This is a very exciting time for us here at Contrec; this procurement will allow us to improve our service to our distributors and customers, increase the business and push into new markets,” Mrs Casson added.

Contrec USA provides marketing, sales, assembly, repair and technical support in the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. The company has a workforce of eight and an annual turnover of $1m. Jef Gaskill, President of Contrec USA, based in Pelham, Alabama, recently spent several days with the Directors of Contrec Manufacturing (UK) Ltd (CML) and Contrec Europe, visiting the company’s facility at Riverside, near Halifax, West Yorkshire. During his visit the procurement deal was finalised.

Mr Gaskill said: “The Contrec-USA team is very enthusiastic about this acquisition.  It is an example of CML’s commitment to this market and to its growth.  We are excited about the new energy and life that CML is breathing into the product line and customer support and we look forward to growing the business within CUSA’s markets as well as globally.”

CML was established in 2012 when the sole manufacturing rights to the Contrec Process Instruments products were bought from Honeywell Inc. CML also supplies its products to its service centre in Australia and many distributors around the world, including several key original equipment manufacturers.

The company has recently introduced the 100 Series, which is a new cost efficient, high volume range of controllers, monitors and totalisers. These combine the high standards of British manufacturing and the technical knowledge of this global company. The units are available in large numbers and some of the range can be powered by off-the-shelf batteries, rather than the more costly intrinsically safe batteries.

Contrec provides flow instrumentation for the petroleum industry, off-shore pipelines, gas, air, water and energy, as well as the food and beverage industries, in which the measurement of flow is vital for every stage of production to ensure product quality and consistency. In process industries flow meters are used for a wide range of applications, such as accurate chemical dosing, metering of additives, leak detection and measurement of incoming water usage.
