Comprehensive hardware update brings enhanced user experience and greater functionality to OxTS’ RT GNSS/INS products

New improvements and innovations 

The next-generation RTs feature a range of improvements and innovations that that make them easier to setup and use. Upgraded processing hardware and a new Novatel OEM7720 receiver boost the next-gen RT’s core functionality, while a host of new connectivity options and built-in features that simplify configuration and data extraction.

Key to the enhanced ease of use of the new RT3000 v3 is the integration of the RT-Range Hunter processing engine, turning the RT device itself into a single-box solution for ADAS testing. With less hardware to install, reduced network complexity and less time spent troubleshooting, even the most complex ADAS tests can now be performed more quickly and with minimal fuss.

The next-generation RT products also feature a range of upgraded and enhanced connectivity options to further enhance ease of use, reduce set-up and configuration time and speed up data extraction.

Onboard Wi-Fi

The addition of onboard Wi-Fi prevents the need for additional cabling, so RT devices can be installed in an otherwise out-of-the-way location without impeding data access. The build-in router also enables the device to operate as a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing users to monitor the RT and to communicate remotely with anything connected to it, such as a driving robot or other units bridged by XLAN.

CAN-FD

Along with an additional ethernet port (bringing the total to three), and in response to an automotive industry move away from the standard CAN bus protocol, the next-generation RT products feature a CAN FD port. The addition of CAN FD support to the existing CAN 2.0 support ensures future-proofed compatibility with other developer systems and offers significant improvements to the volume, variety and velocity of data that can be transmitted.

NTRIP Client

Continuing the theme of enhanced and simplified connectivity, the RT now includes its own integrated NTRIP client with its own simplified configuration process. This integration, alongside the onboard Wi-Fi, means you can now easily configure and connect to devices providing NTRIP RTK differential corrections during open-road autonomous vehicle testing, or when the use of an RTK base station is impractical or unavailable. The onboard NTRIP client significantly reduces installation time and complexity and aids any subsequent troubleshooting.

10-50 V power input

One final new feature designed to further enhance the RT’s all-round flexibility is the adoption of a 10-50 V power input. This enables the units to support the increasing number of new vehicles which operate with a 48 V power supply, without adding further installation complexity.

The same, just better

Despite the next-generation RT products’ extensive upgrades and reduced dimensions, their mounting points are the same as before. This means they remain backwards-compatible with existing OxTS mounting solutions and accessories, including the RT-XLAN, RT-Base S, RT-Strut and RT-Backpack. The new devices also retain an IP65 enclosure rating, so they can be mounted externally if required, even in harsh conditions of rain or dust.
