Analog Devices at Enlit Europe 2021

From 30th November to 2nd December 2021, Analog Devices (ADI) will participate in Enlit Europe, in Milan, Italy. Enlit Europe is the new identity that combines the former European Utility Week and POWERGEN Europe. On stand 12.D110, ADI will showcase its comprehensive portfolio enabling digital energy infrastructure solutions for EV charging and smart grid applications.

On 1st December, from 2:50 to 4:00pm, ADI will participate in the ‘Beyond the Smart Meter / Data Analytics’ panel discussion. Mark Barry, General Manager for Automation and Energy with Analog Devices, will talk about semiconductors at the heart of grid digitalisation and what semiconductors and edge analytics will enable in the future.

Analytics for the Smart Grid

The advent of smart electricity distribution based on ubiquitous smart meter installations provides the opportunity for a new level of monitoring of the distribution grid. Analog Devices delivers the key technologies needed to achieve that goal, such as precision energy measurement, power electronics devices, data networking, and signal processing/computation.

To be demonstrated on the company’s stand at Enlit is mSure technology, a diagnostics system built into ADI’s newest energy measurement ICs. When coupled with ADI Energy Analytics Studio, a cloud-based analytics service, the solution yields insights into the health of the entire meter population. Data on the energy flows within the distribution network can improve fiscal control by identifying instances of electricity theft, where energy is being abstracted without being metered. Analog Devices offers an edge-to-cloud solution for distribution grid operators and meter suppliers.

Power Quality, Measured and Logged

In the evolving electricity grid, with changing mixes of renewable generation, monitoring of power quality takes on an ever-greater importance. ADI will demonstrate its offering for Class-S power quality monitoring. The demonstration will show how the company’s strengths in capture of fundamental measurements and in signal processing are combined in an energy metering IC with dedicated software library, enabling fast time to market and reduced development cost.

Advanced EV Charger Designs

Developing the infrastructure for the transition to electric vehicles brings the need for widespread deployment of EV chargers that will deliver progressively higher charge power both in AC and DC. ADI offers a comprehensive hardware and software portfolio that will be one of the featured demonstrations on its Enlit stand, to support next-generation charger designs. As customer-facing devices, future chargers will have to meet stringent demands in control, metering, and safety.

ADI’s contribution includes dedicated metering chips with self-calibration and remote cloud monitoring features. The company’s power and signal ICs drive EV charger designs from the simple, single phase AC chargers, through publicly installed high-power, 3-phase AC chargers, to super-fast DC chargers employing a range of architectures. The solution highlights features such as mSure self-calibration for metering which simplifies the manufacturing process and monitors accuracy of the energy measurement across the charger lifetime.

Polyphase Power Metering Simplified

Supporting advanced charger designs for EV infrastructure, energy monitoring in the renewables space and AC energy measurement in a wide variety of applications, Analog Devices’ demonstrations will include its highly integrated shunt-based polyphase measurement ICs. These devices bring the flexibility and simplicity of shunt-based current sensing, enabling a lower cost system with immunity to magnetic tampering. Typically applied in polyphase supply configurations, the demo will show how high-accuracy active and reactive energy measurement together with power quality measurements can readily be implemented in small-form-factor designs.

Enlit Europe 2021, Conference and Exhibition, will take place in Fiera Milano di Rho, Milan, Italy; full details are at the organisers’ site.

French Wine Maker Chooses Infor to Ferment New Business Process Management

Maison Sieur d’Arques begins operations transformation project by integrating Infor M3 food industry-specific ERP solution into its core IT infrastructure

Infor, the industry cloud company, today announced that French wine company Sieur d’Arques has chosen to deploy Infor M3. The integration of this enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is part of a project to transform the information systems of Sieur d’Arques, which wants to benefit from the many advantages of a solution designed to respond precisely to the requirements of the wine business and its relationships with its producers, distributors, and resellers.

Learn more about Infor Food & Beverage: https://www.infor.com/products/cloudsuite-food-and-beverage

Founded in 1946 in Limoux in the Languedoc region of France, a land with ideal conditions to produce great wines, Sieur d’Arques is a true pioneer in the field of wine production and techniques. It has inherited a tradition of producing sparkling wines that goes back to the 16th century. Today, the company is gathered around a cooperative of 188 wine-grower members that produces around 9 million bottles each year, 45% of which are dedicated to export. In its headquarters, it employs 117 people and generated a turnover of 32.3 million euros in 2020.

The IT overhaul project initiated with Infor and its partner Hetic3 was born from the increasing demand on the system from the winery’s growing commercial activities, which require each day more agility, flexibility, visibility, and integration of exploitable data.

“We wanted to standardise our business processes by capitalising on a technological solution that would allow us to avoid continually developing specific functionalities and that would allow us to communicate, exchange and analyse crucial data within the framework of our growth in France and internationally,” comments Pascal Vigata, Sieur d’Arques’ management controller and project manager.

“From the very beginning of the project, we had established precise specifications and one of the conditions was to be able to count on a vendor and systems integrator pairing that was perfectly accustomed to working together. Then, it was essential for us that the chosen solution could offer simple and efficient answers to all of our challenges and standardise our practices related to commercial and financial aspects, production itself, quality control and traceability, logistics aspects (storage and shipping) … The positive feedback from our ecosystem regarding the Infor M3 solution and its functionalities dedicated to our wine business also weighed in our final decision,” Vigata says.

The integration of the Infor M3 solution will be spread over two phases of 12 months each, one devoted to the commercial management part, the other to all activities involving the cooperative. It will occupy a team of nine people within the Maison Sieur d’Arques accompanied from start to finish by the Infor and Hetic3 teams.

Christophe Pino, Hetic3’s sales manager, said: “The project entrusted to us by Sieur d’Arques is typical of the expectations of our customers in the wine and spirits industry who are looking to improve and accelerate their operations without sacrificing the quality of their products and services. With Infor M3 integrated by Hetic3, Sieur d’Arques has acquired a solution specifically dedicated to the industry. The functional business processes and the high level of parameterisation of Infor M3 will allow Sieur d’Arques to efficiently manage its production activities as well as its relations with all of the company’s distribution channels, which are as numerous as they are varied.”

This new signature validates, once again, the relevance and constant innovation of Infor’s solution dedicated to the food & beverage industry. “We are very happy to accompany Sieur d’Arques in a large-scale project at a particularly difficult time for the wine industry,” said Philippe Maillet, Infor’s sales director for France, SMB & Channels, “Infor’s vision, Hetic3’s support and the customer’s resilience allow us to look forward to the coming months with optimism thanks to the implementation of Infor M3, our high value-added solution that is particularly well suited to Sieur d’Arques’ ambitions in France and internationally.”

Aerotech will be present at Productronica 2021 in Munich from 16 – 19.11.: Booth B2.340

Positioning systems for micro production in the electronics industry

Fuerth, Germany, 18th October 2021 – At Productronica 2021, the world’s leading trade fair for the development and production of electronics, Aerotech will present its IGM (Integrated Granite Motion Systems) multi-axis positioning system with integrated galvo scanner and the latest Automation1 control platform. In addition, the manufacturer of high-performance motion control and positioning systems will showcase its comprehensive know-how in system solutions for the production of displays, LEDs and discrete components.

In the electronics industry, Aerotech is known for its high-precision motion solutions for critical applications, including manufacturing systems for micronano production, including system peripherals such as galvo scanners and control platforms. An IGM linear table with an AGV20HP galvo scanner and the new Automation1 control platform will be on display at the stand as a demo system. Aerotech launched the IGM (Integrated Granite Motion Systems) linear stages only three years ago as an alternative to conventional

positioning stages with granite substructures. They offer significantly higher rigidity and thus more flexibility in design. The customised linear stages have already proven themselves many times over as practical in a wide variety of applications.

“We will be using the IGM linear table to show live how an electroforming scanner and several movement axes can be precisely controlled simultaneously,” says Simon Smith, European Director Aerotech, specifying the upcoming trade fair appearance.

Galvo scanner with unlimited field of view

By synchronising with other movement axes, the galvo scanner shown can also process workpieces that are larger than its actual field of view – but the high processing quality is maintained. The proven IFOV function (Infinite Field of View) is available for improving the structural accuracy and for general error prevention, e.g. in “classic” stitching. Linear or rotational axes can be synchronised with the laser scanner in such a way that the scanner’s field of view can theoretically be extended to infinity.

New Automation1 version

“At the same time, we will also focus on the latest version of our control software “Automation1 – Precision Motion Control Platform”, we have installed it as a demo system for visitors to the fair.”

The Automation1 is much more than a mere “motion controller”, but also takes over the complete machine control with all components. The platform has its own software-based motion controller, which makes it easy to control different positioning systems as well as connected components.

Higher precision in electronics production

Applications in the electronics industry include automation systems, precision laser processes, and test and inspection processes. One example of the use of Aerotech positioning systems from electronics manufacturing is the production of OLED displays. Here, optimal synchronisation between scanner and servo table movement is particularly important. An additional advantage of controlling the scanner and servo table using a uniform hardware and software platform is that it minimises the dynamic errors of the servo stages. The execution of the cascading movements by means of a single integrated control algorithm enables the scanner to compensate for errors in the tracking of the servo stages in real time. In this way, OLED display manufacturers have little to no loss of accuracy compared to a separately controlled scanner system. “We will be happy to explain how such a system can be optimally synchronised to those interested in the trade at our trade fair stand. We are looking forward to numerous visitors and certainly many interesting discussions,” emphasises Simon Smith.

SuperTest – helping eSOL deliver safety-compliant real-time embedded software platforms

Virtually all of today’s safety-critical embedded software applications are made up of three components: developer-Written application code, standard library components, and a real-time operating system (RTOS).

For Rolland Dudemaine, Vice-President Engineering at eSOL Europe, that last element is why compliance with safety standards, such as ISO 26262 for automotive, is so important. One of his responsibilities is to ensure that the real-time operating system releases which his team develops and supports are exhaustively tested for robustness and compliance.

That is why eSOL chose the SuperTest test and validation suite for C and C++ compilers and libraries from Solid Sands, to undertake a crucial part of this job. With multi-core processors for automotive and other safety-critical applications currently sporting tens or hundreds of cores on a single chip, verifying operating system compliance is a critical part of the company’s development effort.

“Multi-core processing is a trend we identified a long time ago. We created an operating system called eMCOS, designed to run on systems with up to 256 cores and sometimes even more, which we currently provide to customers mostly in the automotive market,” says Rolland Dudemaine. “We also have a team supporting our Autoware, AUTOSAR Classic Platform and AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform offerings.”

Being able to offer safety-certified operating systems and platforms based on eMCOS or AUTOSAR means eSOL needs to provide a fully-tested standard programming API, which is where SuperTest fits in perfectly.

“Everyone expects the operating system to be shipped with the C library, and sometimes the C++ library, so we need to make sure that the functionality of these libraries is fully tested in accordance with the latest Functional Safety (FuSa) methodology.

“For us, the use of SuperTest is essential, because even though we use the Arm platform and a functional safety qualified commercial Arm compiler with a set of pre-qualified C and C++ libraries, they don’t provide all the pieces we need – for example, things like malloc, parts of the C library and POSIX library that are operating system dependent, and some additional headers that are related to our operating system APIs.

“It’s not that Arm has failed to include these things, it’s because they are operating system dependent, so the Arm tool chain assumes that the operating system or platform vendor will implement the remaining pieces.”

eSOL’s eMCOS development team now runs SuperTest on each new release of eSOL’s operating systems to verify that the many operating system APIs that SuperTest covers are functioning as expected.

“We use SuperTest as a functional test suite, a coverage test suite, and a compliance test suite, because our customers expect eSOL to provide an operating system that is already fully tested and compliant,” says Rolland Dudemaine. “SuperTest also has the advantage that several of our customers and partners are already familiar with it and will often use SuperTest themselves for verifying compliance. The fact that we have pre-tested our operating systems and libraries with SuperTest gives them added confidence.

“The two big values of SuperTest are firstly the test suite’s capability itself, and secondly that its existing tests have already been developed and well documented. The addition of new tests to meet our specific requirements was not really difficult,” adds Rolland Dudemaine. “SuperTest and the C++ library does part of it, and we have added other tests that cover specific aspects of our operating systems.”

As far as installation was concerned, getting SuperTest up and running was straightforward.

“Our initial installation of SuperTest was painless and the code is clean, which meant we were quickly able to get the tool on-line. And the support we received via Solid Sands’ Japanese distributor was high-quality and reactive,” says Rolland. “We don’t simply see Solid Sands as a supplier, we also see them as a partner, because we recognise that SuperTest will also be used by many of our customers.”
