SENSOR+TEST 2021 to take place digitally

Real, virtual, and hybrid – that is the motto under which the SENSOR+TEST 2021 will be held from 4 to 6 May 2021. Participants from all over the globe are invited to the innovation dialog. Due to the continuing and critical health-risk situation with the Covid-19 pandemic and further uncertainties in regard to permitting major events, the organiser and the exhibitors’ committee jointly with the AMA executive board have decided to carry out the trade fair completely as a digital event. The SENSOR+TEST 2021 thus enables exhibitors and visitors to communicate and exchange ideas on the latest developments and technical advances in sensor, measuring, and testing technology via modern information channels.

Just as in 2020, the worldwide most important industrial fair for sensor and measuring technology will again be held this year digitally. Since in recent months the information exchange over various online channels has functioned very well and was also well accepted, the SENSOR+TEST from 4 to 6 May 2021 will have significantly expanded digital options. This will turn it into a digital event with great benefit for visitors and exhibitors.

“Since we can’t tell whether a trade fair of the size of the SENSOR+TEST will be allowed at the Nuremberg exhibition halls, the organiser and the exhibitors’ committee agreed in close exchanges with the executive board of the AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement on a purely virtual event. Thus, we can provide early planning certainty for all involved,” said Christoph Kleye, chair of the exhibitors’ committee and director of SonoQ.

Although the organiser, the exhibitors, and visitors would have preferred a hybrid event, good opportunities are certainly available to reach customers and partners for all possible tasks. “Our usually small and medium enterprises will present outstanding technologies to an interested audience this year as well,” added Christoph Kleye.

Three days of pure technology

On the three days of the trade fair, visitors can expect a plethora of exciting topics dealing with the entire spectrum of measuring technology. In numerous parallel expert forums, interested parties can obtain information on the diverse technologies and trends. After live talks or video presentations, there will be ample opportunities for a direct exchange and dialog with the experts. And if you missed a topic session, you can just call it up any time later.

In these graduated expert forums, exhibitors will present their novelties and provide information during sessions of various lengths. These sessions can be in-depth knowhow or brief and to the point – it is up to the visitors. The special topic Sensor and Measuring Technology for Condition Monitoring will be suitably dealt with as well.

Science will also happen digitally

The SMSI 2021 Sensor and Measurement Science International conference (3 – 6 May 2021), planned to be held parallel to the SENSOR+TEST, will concentrate on virtual space. On four days, national and international participants from research, science, and industry will be linked in in a net of four parallel sessions. The SMSI offers a platform for the exchange of the latest research results. Suppliers and users will obtain future-relevant research results. “I’m convinced that this digital conference formation will attract even more experts from all over the world to participate at this first-rate event – especially since many would not be able to travel to Nuremberg in any case. The same is true for the expert forums which will also have and expanded audience,” said Holger Bödeker, the organizer.

SENSOR+TEST as a market of possibilities

The SENSOR+TEST 2021 again appears to become the most important platform for sensor and measuring technology, entered on many business planning calendars. “With three intensive days of expert forums, chatrooms, and video sessions as well as a year round digital information offer via newsletters, websites, and social media, exhibitors and visitors will establish a market of possibilities that calls for a regular exchange of technological ideas,” added Holger Bödeker, who is already online at the event. “True to the SENSOR+TEST, startups and smaller enterprises will find it easy to fit in, talk to their customers, and make new contacts.”

The main digital components that will play a major role in the new approach to trade fairs, will already take place this year in a big way. Holger Bödeker is convinced, “that the SENSOR+TEST of the future will have a considerable digital share alongside the presence event – and we’re going to start with that right this year.”

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2021 announces October return

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2021 will go ahead as a two day event on October 6th and 7th at the Farnborough International Exhibition Centre. The show had previously been postponed from the spring due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. In a further announcement, the organisers have confirmed that the 2022 show will return to its usual dates in early February next year.

Throughout the ongoing crisis, the show organiser, European Trade and Exhibition Services has been in close contact with both exhibitors and visitors, many of whom had indicated their continuing strong support for the show. Show director Phil Valentine commented:

“Based on the feedback we’ve received it is clear that everyone is keen to get back to normal business, providing the circumstances permit and most importantly, it is safe to do so. The kind support and understanding we have received in these difficult times for the event sector has been humbling. The value of face-to-face meetings at shows and events cannot be overestimated as human interaction is undeniably the cornerstone of any successful business relationship. The option of staging the event in October 2021 followed by a return to our normal February timeslot in 2022 received sufficient interest for us to work alongside Farnborough International to identify a realistic and achievable timescale. Consequently, I’m delighted to announce that the Southern Manufacturing & Electronics Show will take place on the 6th & 7th October 2021 and 8th, 9th, 10th February 2022.”

Safety of both visitors and exhibitors is clearly of paramount importance. The show organisers are in continual contact with the venue management team to ensure that all possible measures are in place to ensure a safe environment, fully compliant with all current government and event industry guidelines. Farnborough International Exhibition Centre is one of Europe’s newest exhibition venues. Its non-urban location, ease of access by private transport and fresh air ventilation system make it a relatively low-risk environment, ideally suited to running Covid-safe events.

Southern Manufacturing 2020, which took place before the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, achieved an all-time record attendance of 9,256 visitors over the three-day show, firmly cementing its position as one of the UK’s key industrial technology exhibitions.

Renishaw hosts #Girls4Engineering virtual event to help diversify the sector

To give students and their parents/guardians the opportunity to find out more about careers in engineering, global engineering technologies company, Renishaw, is hosting a #Girls4Engineering virtual event on December 16th.

The one hour webinar, aimed at students in secondary school and above, will include an introduction to Renishaw and potential careers in engineering. Participants will then have the opportunity to listen to three female engineers at Renishaw speak about their personal career journeys and ask any questions in a Q&A session.

“We want to show students that working in engineering can be both exciting and rewarding,” explained Siobhan Denniff, Education Outreach Executive at Renishaw. “This virtual event gives students the opportunity to find out more about why engineering is a fulfilling career choice for girls, women, transgender and non-binary people.”

Denniff continues, “Having a more diverse workforce in the engineering sector will mean stronger, better teams that are more effective at solving all kinds of complex problems and will help to reach the best solutions faster.”

According to the EngineeringUK 2020 report, in the nine years leading up to the academic year 2018 to 2019, the proportion of engineering and technology entrants in higher education who were female increased by five per cent. However, there is still gender disparity — only one in five of all engineering and technology entrants in 2018 to 2019 were women. Renishaw regularly hosts sessions to change perceptions about the sector and encourage more girls to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects in higher education.

Renishaw’s education outreach programme supports STEM curriculums in schools and colleges across Bristol, Gloucestershire and South Wales. Before the pandemic Renishaw hosted talks, hands-on workshops and events to encourage students to pursue engineering as a career. To maintain its engagement levels it now hosts virtual assemblies as well as 3D printing and coding workshops to teach students new engineering skills.

SENSOR+TEST 2021: Real, virtual and hybrid

“Although the experts were not allowed to meet for a concentrated exchange at the worldwide most important industrial trade fair for sensor and measurement technologies this year, the SENSOR+TEST still is the leading fair of this branch of industry,” says Holger Bödeker, the managing director of AMA Service. His team is already planning the next event to take place from 4 to 6 May 2021 for exhibitors and visitors to the innovation dialog at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre. Moreover, the SENSOR+TEST will boast hybrid configurations and a novel Digital Area.

The program is supposed to be packed again: Thus, the special topic planned for 2020, Sensor and Measuring Technology for Condition Monitoring, will be held in 2021. The organiser and the exhibitors’ committee approved this as the special forum was received with great interest for 2020 and booked out early.

The second highlight is the presence and digital premiere of the SMSI – Sensor and Measurement Science International Conference, which is to open its doors the day before the SENSOR+TEST and will include the presentation of the AMA Innovation Award.

“This event is going to start with a high quality even if we as the organiser have to assume a somewhat more compact presence trade fair due to corona,” stated Holger Bödeker. Whether international visitors are allowed in Germany in May of 2021 needs to be seen. “We will adapt the SENSOR+TEST to whatever conditions exist, while ensuring that both, exhibitors and visitors, can look back with satisfaction on the three days of the fair. Also, we’re going to make sure that a constantly accessible platform for an exchange of ideas is available.” The basis for this concept is a tripartite model expanding on the presence event in a digital world:

  • Real: This is where exhibitors and visitors maintain their indispensable personal contacts on the trade-fair grounds.
  • Virtual: Here we have year-round, continuous digital communication between exhibitors and visitors as initiated in 2020.
  • Hybrid: This feature enables all participants at the SENSOR+TEST 2021, present on site or digitally via the internet, to interact with each.

Digital Area advances dialogue

Exhibitors will profit from the new format of the SENSOR+TEST. By merely booking a stand they will automatically participate in the digital fair. This has the advantage that both, the visitors in Nuremberg as well as the digital participants can take part from all over the world. Moreover, their digital presence until the end of the year 2021 will be constantly available. This aspect is complemented by the new Digital Area – without the necessity, but with the opportunity, of being on site (www.sensor-test.de/direct/digitalarea): Here, enterprises can present themselves at many levels to interested parties – via multimedia presentations of product novelties and via text or video chats with the trade-fair visitors or through talks and discussion rounds. “By participating in the Digital Area, exhibitors have no risk, but all possible chances,” ensures Holger Bödeker.

“Despite the economic and political challenges and general changes that will accompany us in the next few months, we want to maintain the communication between exhibitors, scientists, and visitors – and that via the state-of-the-art channels available to us today. That’s what the SENSOR+TEST is about this coming year and the future,” affirmed Bödeker.

Further information on the numerous opportunities to participate at the trade fair is available at www.sensor-test.com.
