Pack More Punch with the New PWR-01 power supplies

Telonic Instruments announce the UK release of the new Kikusui PWR-01 series of wide-range benchtop programmable DC power supplies.

The PWR-01 series are versatile instruments with models offering 400W, 800W, and 1200W rated power output with maximum rated voltages up to 650V. Equipped with a 4-times voltage and current variable ratio, making this one of the most versatile range of DC power supplies on the market today, the PWR-01 provides flexible current and voltage for a variety of applications.
Variable internal impedance is a unique new feature that allows for various types of simulations suitable for automotive test and other battery-driven applications as well as solar-panel evaluation.

The PWR-01 is also equipped with a soft-start function that limits the inrush current, minimizing any harmful effects to DUTs such as DC motors. The power supplies are also equipped with ergonomic power setting knobs, allowing the operator to control voltage and current independently, as well as front-facing banana plugs designed for safety and convenience.

The PWR-01 programmable internal-memory feature lets the engineer save custom sequences on the power supply, eliminating the need to access a PC every time a test is conducted.

Synchronized operation allows for more complex sequences over multiple channels for accurate testing of DC/DC converters and other products.

LAN (LXI), USB, and RS-232 interfaces are included as a standard; the PWR can be operated in almost any testing environment via SCPI commands, facilitating system integration.

Waste Water flow measurement now possible under all conditions

The successful measurement of low flows in partially full pipes and open channels has never been easily accomplished. Problems have ranged from questionable theory to real maintenance issues encompassing fouled sensors, sediment and plugging. The “point velocity” and “line velocity” theories that imply a velocity measured on the fluid surface or near the pipe wall can be substituted for the average velocity throughout the cross-section of the pipe have always been significantly challenged. In addition, flow sensors that sit in the invert of the pipe or hang from the top have made installation difficult, while providing a place for rags and other debris to accumulate. The accuracy of these single technology flowmeters are only consistent within a specific or prescribed range of conditions. If conditions change, the stated accuracy ratings are no longer valid.

A new solution…. Accuron Hybrid Technology Cartridge Meters combine two distinct technologies in order to achieve maximum efficiency for monitoring of such flow under all conditions.

The Cartridge Meter is the first open channel flowmeter to utilize hybrid technology. The new technology combines a stainless steel trapezoidal flume and Teflon level sensor combination for low flow applications with the highly accurate and non-fouling transit-time chordal velocity method for high flow applications. This new hybrid technology system allows for precise and highly accurate flow measurement during extremely low flows, high flows, flood events, reverse flows, stagnation and non-uniform hydraulic profiles.

High Performance under all conditions

During periods of minimal flow (Zero to 1/3 pipe diameter), The Accuron measures flow within its’ low operating range by utilizing the highly efficient combination of a trapezoidal flume and ultrasonic level sensor. Calibrated accuracy is ±3-5% of actual rate at a turndown: 60:1

During periods of maximum flow (1/3 to full pipe diameter). The Accuron measures flow within its high operating range by utilizing an extremely accurate area-velocity system that combines an ultrasonic level sensor with a pair of transit-time velocity sensors.

The Accuron Cartridge Meter comes with the assurance that each critical component will remain perfectly aligned during its installation plus operate free from the ongoing costs of repetitive maintenance. Transit-time chordal measurement is the most viable technique for predicting average velocity. It provides for detection of chordal velocity across the entire path of the fluid being measured.

Cost Benefits

Accuracy and cost efficiency is guaranteed by providing the end user with a pre-engineered field ready system designed for “out of the box” installation as opposed to the traditional solution. A single cartridge, pre-sized for its specific application, arrives at the job site as a fully integrated unit, requiring only 30 minutes for installation. Every component is factory precision aligned, calibrated and programmed in strict accordance to customer supplied operating specifications.

Engineering and plant personnel may now specify an extremely reliable and cost efficient system to monitor and measure flow in a single assembly. The Accuron Cartridge Meter shifts the responsibility of installed accuracy from the field to the factory. The added labour and expense of field programming, precise sensor alignment and costly flume installation is totally eliminated.

Guaranteed Accuracy

Prior to field shipment, each Accuron cartridge Meter is NIST traceable tested, calibrated and certified at the factory’s Flow Metrology Laboratory under the identical size and flow conditions specified for its ultimate application.

Maintenance Free

The risk and expense associated with repetitive confined space entry due to fouled submerged sensor problems is eliminated by utilizing an “above the flow stream” submersible Teflon level sensor. The trapezoidal flume’s flat straight through bottom permits the flume to pass debris quite readily and reduces the problem of sediment build-up up-stream of the flume and the cartridge’s transit time velocity sensors are designed to prevent the accumulation of rags, branches and similar debris from interfering with the performance of the transducers.

Sensors & Instrumentation Live 2019: More content, brand new look

The 2019 edition of Sensors & Instrumentation Live, the UK’s only dedicated exhibition for test, measurement and control, will take place in Hall 2 of the NEC, Birmingham on 25 and 26 September. Following on from the success of the 2018 exhibition, Sensors & Instrumentation Live will once again be sharing a hall with What’s New In Electronics (WNIE) LIVE. The event will also have a direct crossover with TCT – and with a one ticket policy in operation, you don’t need to re-register to get access to WNIE LIVE and TCT allowing you to easily move between three great shows. Sensors & Instrumentation Live, What’s New in Electronics and TCT are working closely for 2019 to guarantee a much better exhibition experience. In  addition, Sensors & Instrumentation Live 2019 will be held at the same time as IMHX, the UK’s largest intralogistics event.

You will notice that Sensors & Instrumentation Live has undergone something of a rebrand for 2019. Formerly known as Sensors & Instrumentation, the exhibition is now known as Sensors & Instrumentation Live. This is partly to tie in with the changes made to the branding of Instrumentation Monthly, the exhibition’s associated magazine, but is also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event. With the new name, comes a new look with a striking logo that reinforces the connection between the magazine and the exhibition.

As the event marks its 10 year anniversary, 2019 is going to be a very exciting year for Sensors & Instrumentation Live. There will be a brand new CPD accredited seminar programme taking place over the two days, a host of technical training sessions, hands on product training and product launches. The popular Flow Level Control (FLC) Zone will be returning too.

We will be announcing more information about the show on a brand new website. Details on the new website will follow in the next few weeks so keep an eye out for an update in the November issue of Instrumentation Monthly. Until then, if you would like to find out more about the event or if you are interested in exhibiting, please contact Louise Pudney (lpudney@datateam.co.uk).
