Rugged connector and component manufacturer Bulgin has announced a major design win with water features manufacturer Aqua Control Inc. (ACI). Bulgin’s 900 Series Buccaneer PX0291 Flex in-line cable connectors are now used as an integral part of every ACI water feature design.
ACI uses extensive engineering to develop new innovative products with an emphasis on pumps that produce high volumes & high pressures, therefore capable of producing large patterns. The Illinois-based company was looking for a power connector that was rugged enough to prevent electrical short-circuits from water leakage, even in the harshest possible underwater and outdoor environments, and after a rigorous four-stage trial process, decided to choose Bulgin’s PX0291 cable connectors as their desired solution.
“Controlling electricity in water is a primary requirement of our business, and a difficult one. We looked for underwater connectors for a long, long time,” said the president of ACI, Willis Dane, adding that his company had contacted Bulgin for some connector samples. “It’s imperative that these underwater connectors don’t leak and shut the fountain off, because customers would be very unhappy. The Bulgin connectors have reliably solved that problem.”
The Bulgin connector offers a quick disconnect feature with a positive fast-acting locking ring that enables testing, repairs and maintenance on the water features to be carried out very quickly. With their IP68 rated composite material housing, the connectors are consistently able to withstand water, dirt, corrosive chemicals and extreme temperatures to last throughout the water feature’s predicted lifecycle.
The 900 Series is the most high-powered circular connector in the popular Buccaneer range as it is capable of up to 32A, 600V ac/dc ratings. Carrying UL, CSA & VDE approvals, these heavy-duty cable connectors are ideal for a variety of harsh environment applications for single or three phase power distribution such as sewerage and water works, construction sites, external lighting as well as industrial machinery, pumps and motors.
The PX0291 is offered in plug or socket versions and accommodates 13-15 mm cable diameter as standard or 7-13mm with an additional gland pack and sealing caps are also available to protect unmated connectors. The specially designed locking ring enables the connector to be turned even with gloved hands.
