Active protective textile switches off laser

JUTEC provides an active laser protection textile which gives an enhanced extra level of safety when compared to passive textile protection.

The active textiles ensure that the laser is switched off in an emergency. The active sensor is part of the protective fabric, and this is connected to the laser’s circuitry via switch-off electronics. Beam emission is stopped immediately before the fabric is damaged or its physical properties change. As laser powers increase this added layer of safety is becoming increasingly important. The active layers have been tested on applications using 12kW.

The active material is embedded between two layers of laser protection fabric, this ensures the protective circuitry is not triggered at low radiation intensity. JUTEC ensure safety in accordance with DIN EN 60825-4 in high-power laser applications. The protective textile is only 10mm thick, it can be cut to all shapes and sizes and is therefore flexible in use. These can be retrofit on existing laser safety cabins or areas.
