RS Components (RS) helped support a student team from Aberdeen University achieve Best Newcomer in the hydrogen prototype category of the Shell Eco-marathon programme this month, for their ultra-energy-efficient car.
PrototAU, team of around 50 students for which RS was the headline sponsor, developed the car with financial and ongoing technical support from RS, and competed in the Shell Eco-marathon Mileage Challenge, where the winning car is the one that completes the set course using the least energy.
PrototAU team manager, Alessandro Rigola, said: “We had an amazing time at the Shell ECO marathon, and to be awarded the best newcomer in the hydrogen prototype category was the icing on the cake and great reward for our efforts. We’re extremely grateful to our supporters who assisted us throughout the journey – including RS, which helped us select the right components for the vehicle build. We are very excited to compete next year!”
Steve McIntyre, Branch Manager at RS Local on the Altens Industrial Estate in Aberdeen, added: “We are so pleased for PrototAU and proud of their achievements in the global challenge. Shell Eco-marathon is in its 35th year and is divided into internal combustion, battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell energy categories. There are also three vehicle classes: Prototype, UrbanConcept and the new Autonomous UrbanConcept. The PrototAU team competed in the Prototype category, held in London.
